Cancer Survivorship Services

Cancer and its treatments have lifelong effects, even after your child is in remission. The survivorship experts at Atrium Health Levine Children’s have spent years helping children navigate these long-term issues. We’re one of the few pediatric cancer survivorship program in the greater Charlotte area, and we can identify your child’s health risks and take steps to prevent or manage them.

Our pediatric survivorship services

Our survivorship services include:

• Screening for long-term health issues. Unfortunately, chemotherapy and other treatments increase the risk of things like learning problems, heart disease and second cancers. We review your child’s medical records and treatments to determine their risk of future health issues. Then we take steps to try and prevent those conditions. And we regularly screen your child to catch new health conditions early, when they’re easiest to treat.
• Nutritional help. Our dietitians can pinpoint your child’s nutritional needs, so you know which foods and eating habits can keep them as healthy as possible.
• A comprehensive child life program. Our child life specialists help kids cope with all aspects of cancer. This includes helping children understand their disease’s long-term effects, helping teachers and classmates know what your child is going through and even developing an individualized school curriculum if your child needs it.
• Support from clinical social workers. Clinical social workers meet with you to understand what your child and family need. Then they connect you with everything from psychological counseling to financial assistance.
• Promoting wellness. Our survivorship doctor uses tools like integrative medicine to help survivors and their families be as healthy as possible.
